Hi, I’m Donna your Doula!

Serenity is

As your future doula, I am passionate about helping you understand your journey, providing you with unbiased evidenced-based information about your pregnancy, medical procedures, medications, mental health and wellness, and all other aspects of your pregnancy and birthing experience--in a way that is personalized to each individual family. Few things are scarier than the fear of the unknown, especially when it comes to something as special as bringing a brand-new soul into this world! During my own pregnancy, I felt scared, alone, and shocked by how traumatic my labor was. Thus, Serene Journey Births was created out of my desire to show women that there is an alternative to this chaotic narrative that is commonly portrayed in American culture. Together, we will explore the more Serene side of pregnancy and birth. We will focus on aligning the mind and body with the spirit and take a more holistic approach to your pregnancy and birth. It is critically important that a mother feels supported and empowered about her pregnancy and birth. And that is what I’m here for!

Healing your body, womb, and birth.

Your Doula, Donna
Serene Journey Births

Our Mission

Serene Journey was established with a mission to empower women during pregnancy and address the increasing demand for labor support in our community. My mission is to nurture mothers' confidence in the natural strength and beauty of their bodies and the birthing process. I believe the birth of a baby is an extraordinary, magical moment, and I strive to ensure mothers and their partners fully experience and cherish this time. My birth support philosophy integrates a holistic approach, focusing on the mind, body, and spirit connection in childbirth.

The benefits of including a Doula in the birth team are now well-documented and significant:

  • A 50% reduction in the rate of cesarean sections and a 25% shorter duration of labor.

  • A 60% decrease in requests for epidurals, particularly beneficial for families wishing to avoid such interventions.

  • Reduced incidence of postpartum complications and depression.

  • Higher breastfeeding success rates and overall satisfaction with the birth experience, irrespective of how the birth unfolds.

The memories a woman holds of her birthing experience are enduring and profoundly impact her self-esteem and confidence. I am dedicated to ensuring that women and couples feel empowered, supported, and positively transformed by their childbirth experience.

My Training

My journey into the realm of childbirth support began with a solid foundation in science, as I earned my B.S. in Neuroscience from George Mason University. This academic background provided me with a deep understanding of the physiological and neurological aspects of childbirth. I further honed my skills and expertise by undergoing doula training at the International Center for Traditional Childbearing (ICTC), now known as Shafia Monroe Consulting, and completed the Perinatal Community Health Worker (PCHW) program at Mamatoto Village in Washington, D.C. Complementing my doula credentials, I have pursued additional certifications that enrich my holistic approach to childbirth and postpartum care, including Crystal Therapy, Reiki, and Herbs & Nutrition for Pregnancy and the Postpartum period. These qualifications underscore my commitment to supporting women through their childbirth journey with a blend of scientific knowledge and traditional wisdom.

Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers— strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength.
