Doulas are healers.
As a doula, I am passionate about helping you understand your journey by providing you with unbiased evidenced-based information about your pregnancy in a way that is personalized to your individual needs. This includes information on prenatal medical procedures, laboring medications, and mental health and wellness. Few things are scarier than the fear of the unknown and it is my mission that mothers who work with me will never have to look anyone in the eyes during labor and feel as hopeless and powerless as I once did.
Together, we will explore the more Serene side of pregnancy and birth and make efforts to avoid the chaotic narrative we often see in American hospitals. We will focus on aligning the mind and body with the spirit and take a more holistic approach to your pregnancy and birth.
From Curiosity to Calling: My Journey to Becoming a Doula
Reflecting on my journey and the serendipitous path to becoming a doula, it's evident that this profession chose me as much as I chose it. My fascination with childbirth has been a constant thread throughout my life, beginning with inquisitive conversations with my mother about her pregnancies. This curiosity blossomed in high school as I devoured every piece of literature on childbirth and biology I could get my hands on, dreaming of a future as an Obstetrician. However, an unexpected turn into marine biology during high school did little to dampen my enthusiasm for obstetrics, a passion reignited by my own pregnancy at 18.
As a young, expectant mother, I faced my journey into motherhood largely alone, armed with little more than pamphlets from my doctor's office. The lack of accessible information, support groups, or guidance left me unprepared for the realities of childbirth. My labor experience, far from the beautiful event I had envisioned, was marked by pain, fear, and isolation, leading me to vow to educate women on what to expect during pregnancy and childbirth.
This commitment led me to reconsider my path towards becoming an OB, as I realized the traditional medical approach often lacked the personal, educational focus I envisioned. Shifting my sights, I explored midwifery, drawn to its holistic and woman-centered philosophy. It wasn't long before I discovered the role of a doula and knew I had found my calling.
Now, with three years of experience as a doula, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to fulfill my promise to myself and to the women I support. Every day, I am privileged to share in the transformative journey of childbirth, offering the guidance, support, and education I once so keenly missed. My journey from a curious child to a passionate doula has been a profound affirmation of my life's purpose: to empower women through one of their most pivotal experiences.
